A new house and new friends for Glen Lake's newest students
Glen Lake 2026-27

Last week was full of excitement and House pride at Glen Lake Elementary as students and staff celebrated the school’s House System and welcomed new members into the Glen Lake community.

The week began with a whole-school assembly led by Glen Lake’s 5th grade House Leaders. The student leaders shared what they love about their Houses and helped reinforce the importance of following Glen Lake’s school-wide expectations. The school also celebrated House Amistad, which earned the most points during the 2025-26 school year. This marked the second House championship for Amistad, and their championship banner now proudly hangs in the gym.

The excitement continued with House Sorting for kindergarten students and other students who are new to Glen Lake this school year. Each student selected a black balloon filled with confetti. With the help of the House Hero and 5th grade House Leaders, the balloons were popped above the students’ heads, sending a shower of confetti down and revealing the color of their new House: Amistad, Reveur, Altruismo, or Isibindi.

Even Superintendent Dr. Michael Thomas joined in the celebration and was sorted into House Reveur.

The House System is an important part of Glen Lake’s strong sense of community and belonging. Every new student is welcomed into one of four Houses, creating opportunities to build relationships with students across grade levels. Younger students benefit from connections with older peers, while older students have opportunities to develop leadership skills and serve as positive role models.

Once each month, students gather with their Housemates across all grade levels for activities that encourage connection, celebration, and teamwork. The House System provides every student with a built-in community and support network while helping strengthen school spirit and relationships throughout the school.
